“Hand in Hand” – Xcartoys Hongqi L5 “Wedding Day”
While Xcartoys continues to improve their craftsmanship in model cars, their marketing prowess remains equally impressive. This Christmas season, they’ve launched the Hongqi L5 Wedding Edition. Though the L5 (now known as “Guo Li” or National Gift) isn’t new to collectors, combining it with bride and groom figurines and a balloon arch creates an innovative presentation. Perhaps Xcartoys should consider releasing a separate figurine series – that could be quite promising.

The Hongqi Guo Li (formerly L5) launched in June 2024 with a starting price of 7.18 million RMB. Its impressive dimensions (5,980/2,090/1,710mm) and 3,730mm wheelbase establish its position as China’s flagship luxury vehicle. The Guo Li’s distinctive features include signature dual crystal headlights, a power-rising “Golden Sunflower” emblem, and a massive chrome grille. The side profile showcases “pizza-dish” style chrome wheels. Inside, there’s a horizontal dashboard with dual screens and a central quartz clock. Powered by a new 4.0T V8 turbocharged engine, it delivers 388 horsepower and 530Nm of torque, reaching a top speed of 220km/h. Interestingly, money alone can’t secure one – potential buyers must pass a character assessment by the manufacturer.

In Xcartoys’ world, the Hongqi L5 isn’t new, but this presentation is unique. Following their successful aircraft stairs truck and traditional wedding goods truck models, Xcartoys demonstrates their exceptional figurine-making skills. The red packaging displays “Hongqi L5 ‘Wedding Day'” text, with a window revealing a Western-styled bride and groom – he in black, she in white. Accessories include a red balloon arch, front car decorations, and pink balloon arrangements. While I’ve owned other brands’ wedding figurines, none match this set’s dynamism. Most importantly, the groom must “hold” the bride’s hand to stand stable without support – truly embodying the ancient Chinese saying “I take your hand, to grow old together.” As for the balloon arch, I think white or gold would be more elegant than the rather festive red.
