BBR Maserati MC12 Stradale

BBR Maserati MC12 Stradale

A Worthy Successor – BBR’s Maserati MC12 Stradale

After Kyosho released their Maserati capsule toys, the brand seemingly vanished from the 1/64 scale model car scene. The quality of subsequent “tribute” versions varied greatly, leaving enthusiasts wanting. That is, until BBR announced the launch of the MC12 Stradale, finally delivering a worthy successor in high-definition Maserati models.

The Maserati MC12 Stradale, a limited edition supercar, was introduced in 2004 to meet racing regulations. Initially, 25 units were produced, with an additional 25 “civilian versions” following due to rule changes. Designed by Frank Stephenson, the car was developed based on the Ferrari Enzo’s chassis and powertrain but surpassed it in both exterior design and aerodynamic performance. The MC12 boasts a 6.0-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine producing 621 horsepower, coupled with a 6-speed sequential gearbox. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in a mere 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 330 km/h. The MC12 Stradale’s body stretches over 5 meters and features a large rear wing, providing exceptional downforce. Notably, the MC12’s lap time at the Nürburgring was 1 second faster than the Enzo’s. Most MC12s sport a striking white and blue livery, paying homage to the Maserati Tipo 60/61 ‘Birdcage’ race car of the America Camoradi team from the 1960s. The MC12 was not only Maserati’s fastest production car at the time but also marked a significant milestone in the brand’s return to motorsport. In the FIA GT Championship, the MC12 GT1 race version performed exceptionally well, securing multiple drivers’ and team championships for Maserati.

The BBR Maserati MC12 Stradale model, perhaps due to its flat body shape, often appears slightly odd in photos, except from certain angles. However, BBR’s craftsmanship is undeniably commendable. The white body avoids a “chunky” appearance, and the body lines are crisp and distinct. A unique feature is the contrasting red left and blue right wheel rims and covers. While the taillights, being too small for plastic parts, differ from the headlights in construction, the grille showcases a detailed carbon fiber texture. A silver Maserati logo adorns the rear, completing the authentic look. One can’t help but wonder if BBR will release an MC12 GT1 version. That blue-bodied model with the iconic silver trident logo continues to captivate the imagination of collectors and enthusiasts alike.
