Cultural creativity and family experiences fuel themed‑expo boom

Hong Kong Toycar Salon 2025 wrapped up yesterday after drawing more than 40,000 visits over three days—33% above expectations and the highest attendance on record. According to the organiser, about 30% of attendees were non‑local, similar to last year. There was a clear rise in buyers from the Chinese Mainland, with additional visitors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Africa and Brazil—underscoring Hong Kong’s role as Asia’s hub for model‑car culture and its international pull. Many exhibitors reported strong sales, with some selling out their three‑day inventory by the second day, reflecting robust consumer demand generated by the event.

Curator of “Hong Kong Toycar Salon” and founder of “HKTOYCAR” Lierence Li said: “This year’s attendance surpassing 40,000 proves the Toycar Salon has become one of Hong Kong’s signature themed exhibitions. The surge in family audiences shows how model‑car culture—‘making friends through cars’—is entering everyday life and bringing different communities together. The show is not just a trading platform; it’s a meeting ground connecting brands, players, design and community. We will keep refining the experience and expanding the platform to take Hong Kong’s model‑car culture to the world.”

This year’s edition gathered 100+ new and limited‑edition model cars and brought together more than 50 local and international brands. Overseas exhibitors from Malaysia, Indonesia came to Hong Kong specially to participate. Under the theme “Hong Kong Street Culture,” the show featured, for the first time, more than 10 Japanese JDM full‑size cars displayed alongside 1:64 scale models, delivering a unique experience. The Cultural & Creative Zone, Themed Marketplace and Miniature World displays proved highly popular. Cross‑disciplinary collaborations and diversified content successfully engaged audiences across ages and interest groups. The strong reception for the themed content further demonstrates Hong Kong’s capacity to host themed exhibitions and effectively promote local model‑car culture to broader communities.
