Take a Break for Tea – Xcartoys CUSTOM TOYOTA Crown Gen.7 Hong Kong Toycar Salon 2024 Special Edition
At this year’s Hobby Expo China 2024 in April, Xcartoys managed to grab quite a bit of attention. As the show moved to Hong Kong and Foshan, what new features would the CUSTOM TOYOTA Crown Gen.7, the low-suspension special edition of the seventh-generation Toyota Crown, bring to the table?

The seventh-generation Toyota Crown (Toyota Crown), with the internal code S120 series, made its debut in 1983. The front grille was newly redesigned, while the biggest highlight of the body was the newly designed C-pillar, decorated with acrylic panels, earning it the nickname “Crystal C-pillar,” making it a signature design element of this generation. In terms of power, the seventh-generation Crown offered four displacement options: 2.0L, 2.4L, 2.8L, and 3.0L, spanning nine different engine models. The 3.0L engine was introduced for the first time, delivering 190 horsepower and 260Nm of torque. The 2.8L engine came in three versions: carburetor, single overhead camshaft EFI, and dual overhead camshaft EFI, paired with 3-speed automatic, 4-speed automatic, and 5-speed manual transmissions. In 1984, the seventh-generation Crown entered the Chinese market, with models primarily equipped with 2.8L and 2.4L engines, offering four configurations: Royal Saloon, Super Saloon, Super Deluxe, and Standard Edition. Thanks to its luxurious features, such as dual-zone climate control, cassette audio system, dashboard CD player, refrigerator, reading lights, and more, coupled with its stable performance and excellent reliability, it became the top choice for government vehicles at the time.

Xcartoys is launching a CUSTOM TOYOTA Crown Gen.7 low-suspension special edition for the Hong Kong Toycar Salon 2024 (hereafter referred to as the Toycar Salon) and ALL IN TUNING. The special edition is limited to 500 units for the Hong Kong market. Set against the backdrop of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the modified MS122 (2.8L Super Deluxe) Crown takes the theme of “grabbing a quick bite of rice noodle rolls at a street-side stall,” featuring folding stools, red plastic stools, flip-flops, and white tank tops to evoke a strong sense of local culture. In addition to the special packaging, the car comes with a UV-printed transparent crystal display box, a 1/64 scale figure eating rice noodle rolls, plastic stools, and folding chairs. Each box also contains a hidden Chase Car version. At ALL IN TUNING, besides the aforementioned accessories, the “Xcartoys Grand Hotel” will also bring a real car to the venue, along with giveaways like tank top bags and rice noodle roll boxes, making the experience feel incredibly lifelike.

As for the cars themselves, the main differences between the two special editions include the “Take a Break for Tea” and Toycar Salon design on the transparent box, and the windshield markings that read “HONG KONG TOYCAR SALON 2024” and “ALL IN TUNING,” respectively, for easy identification. Regardless of the version, the craftsmanship is equally impressive: the chrome-plated grille, transparent plastic head and tail lights with turn signals, polygonal wheels, curtains replicated on the side and rear windows, checkered fabric seats in the cabin, and cassette player are all meticulously recreated. My Toycar Salon model is the polished special edition, and the finish feels different after polishing. As for the accompanying figure, it’s a brilliant touch, sitting stably and able to interact with other cars and scenes. The only downside is that the rice noodle rolls are too small to notice at first, and without the noodles, it feels like something is missing.

A big thank you to Xcartoys for incorporating the Hong Kong Toycar Salon into its new car designs.
