Toyota GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U

Toyota GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U

Blur of Reality – Toyota GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U

One of the unexpected gems from this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) 2025 was snagging a Toyota GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U pullback car at the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) booth.

Toyota GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U

The Toyota GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U is a 2024 masterpiece from TGR, built for the brutal Dakar Rally and World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC). Based on the rugged Hilux, it packs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine pumping out around 358 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque. Paired with a Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox and full-time four-wheel drive, it’s a beast tailored for extreme off-road battles. The body stretches 100 mm wider, sporting a composite twin-door design, while the suspension boasts a beefy 350 mm travel. In the 2024 Dakar Rally, TGR fielded five crews with stars like Giniel de Villiers, Lucas Moraes, and Guy Botterill. All five cars crossed the finish line, with three cracking the top ten: Botterill took sixth (and best rookie honors), de Villiers seventh, and Moraes ninth—a solid haul that boosted Toyota’s rally cred.

At TAS 2025, the TGR booth was a boutique overload, but two pullback cars sat tucked opposite the cashier in a tiny, easy-to-miss spot. I expected the GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U to feel hefty, but it’s surprisingly light—talk about a twist! The matte black finish, detailed front and rear lights, plus slick decals, wheels, and a tailgate panel, make it look so polished you’d mistake it for a diecast model at first glance.
