Kidult

Hong Kong ToyCar Salon 2026 Concludes with Remarkable Success

Over 40,000 Visitors Drive Hong Kong’s “Mega-Event Economy”

The 6th edition of the Hong Kong ToyCar Salon, held over three days, concluded successfully today. Fuelled by the booming “Kidult” consumption trend, the event attracted more than 40,000 visitor admissions over the three-day run, with average spending per visitor approaching HK$1,000 — a new record that underscores the exhibition’s growing role as an emerging force in Hong Kong’s “mega-event economy.”

Organised by HKTOYCAR, Hong Kong’s leading model car culture platform, Hong Kong ToyCar Salon 2026 was held from 21 to 23 August at the Grand Ballroom, Level 16, Hopewell Hotel, Wan Chai. This year’s edition reached a new scale, bringing together over 60 brands from Japan, the United States, Germany, France, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Collectors and enthusiasts travelled from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Spain, Brazil, Thailand, the United States and beyond specifically to attend the show and “shop for toy cars,” with non-local visitors accounting for over 30% of total attendance — providing a significant boost to dining, hospitality and retail spending across Wan Chai and Hong Kong Island.

Kidult Spending Power Drives Record Per-Capita Consumption

Riding the wave of the booming “Kidult” market, an increasing number of financially capable adults are willing to spend on nostalgia and childhood memories — a key driver behind this year’s record-breaking consumption figures. Multiple brands unveiled global debuts and show-exclusive releases, triggering enthusiastic buying sprees among collectors. This year’s exhibition also expanded beyond road vehicles to include railway and aviation models, introducing a brand-new aircraft model zone alongside the ever-popular 1:64 scale die-cast cars. The show continued to feature a range of 1:1 scale classic modified JDM vehicles, while a dedicated “Miniature World” display zone and a series of celebrity-hosted stage programmes further elevated the overall visitor experience.

Business Sessions Foster Cross-Border Collaboration, Helping Brands “Go Global”

Lierence Li, Curator of Hong Kong ToyCar Salon 2026 and Managing Director of Market Hubs, remarked: “This year’s exhibition recorded over 40,000 visitor admissions across three days — a truly encouraging result. The explosive growth of the Kidult market reflects how model car collecting has evolved from a niche hobby into a mainstream consumer pursuit. Several exhibitors achieved their highest-ever sales at the show, and a number of local and overseas brands have already begun discussions for next year’s participation. Hong Kong-based brands continue to attract strong attention from collectors worldwide, successfully telling Hong Kong’s story through toy cars.”

He further noted that the exhibition’s dedicated B2B sessions successfully facilitated cross-industry collaboration, fully leveraging Hong Kong’s unique position as a “super-connector” and “super value-adder” — helping both local and Mainland Chinese brands successfully expand into international markets.

Looking ahead, Li anticipates more themed exhibitions will emerge in Hong Kong, drawing participants from across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Mainland China, and international markets — further stimulating the real economy and reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a storyteller on the global stage.

HKTOYCAR Awards 2026 Concludes with Strong Industry Recognition

The highly anticipated HKTOYCAR Awards ceremony was also successfully held during the exhibition. Winners were determined through public nomination and one-person-one-vote balloting across multiple categories, including “Model Car Brand” and “Model Retailer Store,” allowing the public to directly recognise the most beloved brands and initiatives in the industry. The Awards not only celebrated outstanding performance across the sector, but also further strengthened the collector community and supported the continued development of Hong Kong’s model car culture.
