English

Hong Kong ToyCar Salon 2026 Officially Opens
Leading the “Kidult Nostalgia Economy” in a Deep Crossover with Automotive Culture
Hong Kong ToyCar Salon 2026, Asia’s flagship annual event celebrating model car collecting and automotive lifestyle culture, officially opened today at the Grand Ballroom, Level 16, Hopewell Hotel, Wan Chai. Organised by HKTOYCAR, Hong Kong’s leading model car culture platform, and produced by Trigemini Holdings, this year’s edition marks a dramatic leap in both scale and content — bringing together over 60 leading model car brands from around the world, alongside 1:1 scale classic modified JDM vehicles, aviation, railway and bus models, desktop wind-tunnel technology, and cross-category collaborations with popular toy IPs. Over the three-day run, the exhibition is expected to draw more than 40,000 visitors and buyers from across the globe, generating substantial spillover spending on dining, hotels and retail in Wan Chai and the surrounding districts — a clear demonstration of the strong momentum behind Hong Kong’s “mega-event economy” and its thriving pop culture scene.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr. Chan Pak Li, Bernard, Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development; Mr. Shiu Ka-fai, National Committee Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Legislative Council Member (Wholesale and Retail Functional Constituency); Mr. Carl Wong, Chairman of Exhibition Group; and Mr. Lierence Li, Curator of Hong Kong ToyCar Salon and Managing Director of Market Hubs.
From “Made in Hong Kong” to “Hong Kong Brand”
Hong Kong has long held a celebrated chapter in the global toy manufacturing story under the “Made in Hong Kong” banner. Today, that legacy has evolved into “Hong Kong Brand” and “Hong Kong Design” — allowing the city’s toy industry to continue shining on the international stage. Notably, more than half of the world’s top ten leading 1:64 scale model car brands originate from Hong Kong and Macau. Leveraging the full ecosystem of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, model car brands are able to negotiate licensing, design and market strategy in Hong Kong, while precision manufacturing takes place at factories across the Greater Bay Area — with finished products then distributed both domestically and internationally. Many brands seeking to expand overseas also look to Hong Kong as a springboard into markets across Southeast Asia, Central Asia and South America.
Lierence Li, Curator of Hong Kong ToyCar Salon and Managing Director of Market Hubs, commented:
“Model cars have long transcended their origins as traditional toys, evolving into a substantial industry that bridges automotive culture, contemporary art, and emotional connection. As the Kidult market continues its rapid rise, more financially capable adults are choosing to invest in nostalgia and childhood memories — using exquisitely detailed model cars to fulfil the ‘wanted-but-unattainable’ dreams of their youth. The ‘toy car’ has become the perfect vessel for this blend of sentiment, collectible value, and automotive culture. Hong Kong’s model car brands have long played a pivotal leadership role in the international market, and through the Hong Kong ToyCar Salon platform, we aim to fully leverage the city’s unique strengths as both a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super value-adder’ — linking Mainland China’s world-class manufacturing and design supply chains on one hand, while connecting to expansive buyer markets and international IP licensing opportunities across Europe, the US, Japan and beyond on the other. This dual role helps Mainland and local brands successfully expand overseas, while positioning Hong Kong as the world’s premier hub for model car and automotive culture exchange.”
He further noted that the exhibition’s dedicated B2B sessions provide an efficient platform for brands, licensors, buyers, and upstream design and manufacturing partners to connect and collaborate.
Connecting Global Brands, Licensors and Buyers to Drive Cross-Industry Collaboration
Hong Kong ToyCar Salon has consistently focused on building a platform that connects brands, licensors and buyers from around the world. This year’s edition brings together over 60 exhibiting brands spanning seven regions — Japan, the United States, Germany, France, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau — including the return of household names such as Majorette and Hot Wheels. Over the three-day event, brands, licensors and buyers engage in face-to-face negotiations that foster cross-industry collaboration, while emerging brands gain valuable exhibition space to enter the international market. The show also features a wide range of limited-edition and show-exclusive debut releases, giving collectors and enthusiasts the chance to secure sought-after pieces all in one place.
Mega-Event Economy Drives Footfall and Spending Across Wan Chai
With more than 40,000 visitors expected across the three-day run, the exhibition is set to generate momentum well beyond the show floor — driving significant spending on dining, hotels and retail throughout Wan Chai and neighbouring districts, in direct alignment with Hong Kong’s broader “mega-event economy” strategy. A large number of overseas and Mainland collectors are travelling to Hong Kong specifically for the event, contributing to local tourism and overnight stays in addition to their exhibition attendance. This reflects the strong potential of niche cultural exhibitions like the model car show to attract visitors, extend length of stay, and stimulate cross-district spending — adding fresh momentum to Hong Kong’s cultural and consumer economy.
The exhibition runs from today until 23 August at Hopewell Hotel, Wan Chai, and is open to enthusiasts and members of the public. For further details and event updates, please follow the official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/hktoycarsalon
